As a Trainee - Catering Officer at BSM, you will support the delivery of high‑quality food and hospitality services across our fleet. You will assist catering teams and senior officers in ensuring safe, efficient and cost‑effective provision of meals and related hospitality functions, contributing to crew welfare and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the planning and preparation of menus in line with nutritional requirements, budget constraints, and voyage schedules.
Support procurement activities by raising requests, assisting with stock ordering, and helping to maintain accurate inventory records for food, beverage and housekeeping supplies.
Help implement and maintain hygiene and food safety standards on board, including monitoring storage, preparation and service procedures in accordance with company policies and relevant regulations.
Participate in provisioning coordination with onboard and shore teams to ensure timely deliveries and reduce waste.
Assist with meal preparation and service during routine operations and special events, ensuring high standards of presentation and customer service.
Support cost control measures by recording consumption, reporting variances and assisting with simple stock reconciliations.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to catering activities, including temperature logs, cleaning schedules and supplier paperwork.
Contribute to training and handover processes, learning company procedures and supporting the professional development of the catering team.
Provide courteous and timely responses to routine enquiries from crew and shore colleagues and escalate issues when required.
Assist in preparation for inspections and audits, gathering documentation and supporting corrective actions as directed.
Qualifications & Experience
Relevant qualification in catering, hospitality or food safety is advantageous but not required.
No previous maritime experience required; previous work in catering, hospitality, or food service is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices; willingness to complete food safety training.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a multicultural team.
Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment.
Basic IT literacy to support stock records and simple reporting.
Fluency in English.
